OUR BACKGROUND

Extractives Africa is a multi-national project established to promote the optimum
utilization of natural resources for the socioeconomic development of natural resource
owners/dependants in Africa. Extractives Africa, like other socio-economic interventions for optimum natural
resources utilization, seeks to ensure an integrated three-level approach to progressively enhance the
socioeconomic transformations of local communities, countries, and the African continent, by
encouraging multi-disciplinary all-inclusive stakeholder participation in the exploitation, utilization
and management of the abundant natural resources. instituting

Extractives Africa identifies the need to continually commit to attaining optimum/sustainable
exploitation/utilization of natural resources, most especially to the benefit of fringe communities,
through clearly defined sets of vision and mission statements necessary for achieving the stated goals
of the project. It further provide a platform for accessing strategic technical and informational support
for implementing the project Vision, towards successfully achieving the project goals.

OUR BRAND

Vision:
Extractives Africa envisages being able to promote an enhanced utilization agenda of natural resources in a way to
make natural resources play a greater transformative role in the development of the continent through
increased economic and social linkages, and in this manner, help address its intractable poverty and
limited development.

Mission:
The mission of Extractives Africa is to become a strategic tool that will help to shape the natural resources
exploration and exploitation dynamics of the country, with the focus of encouraging broad-based
development programmes targeted at fringe communities of such resources.
Extractives Africa seeks to become an active player in the policy space in natural resources management and to
help to identify and address community-level and governance weaknesses that has excluded the
owners of mineral wealth – the people – from deriving full benefits from the natural resource subsector
of the Ghanaian economy.

Contributing to National Discourse

COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The principal clientele of RAP are the fringe communities within the operational concessions of the
establishments who are into natural resources exploration/exploitation. This is because, they are the
direct sufferers of most of the negative effects of these activities, as has been identified in many
research works. Fringe communities in mining, quarrying, and logging activities have and continue to
suffer harsh economic, environmental, and social consequences from these activities. For example,
Most fringe communities have had their water sources contaminated with toxic chemical spills
emanating from the mining activities.
